The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai (Review)
The Inheritance of Loss is the second novel from the pen of Kiran Desai. The book was published in the year 2016. The book has won lots of awards including Man Booker Prize. The story of the novel revolves around two character Biju and Sai. Biju is an illegal Indian immigrant who is living in America. He works for the Sai’s grandfather.
On the other hand, Sai is a girl who lives in Kalimpong with her maternal grandfather, Jemubhai. He is a cook. You will find that these people does not praise English ways. However, at the same time they consider USA a good place from the money making perspective. The book also concentrates on those Indians who have adopted all the English way and have left their own tradition and culture far behind. Sita Mithila Ki Yoddha, the Hindi translation of Sita – The Warrior of Mithila is now available.
Similarly, Jemubhai has also adopted all the English ways and disgust Indian manners and styles. Still he is not fully accepted by the society. Society, after living there for years still see him as outsider and can never accept him as one of them.
